#AnneReadAlong2017: Top 5 Why Anne?

AGG Top 5 List (1)

Happy Weekend, everyone!

As my awesome co-host Jackie mentioned in her post earlier this week, we are looking for more ways to get you involved in our #AnneReadAlong2017. Even if you can’t commit to reading the full series, we hope you will join us for some of the books and for a few other posts along the way. Jackie put together a schedule of monthly Top 5 posts all themed around our favorite redheaded heroine. You can access that list on the above link.

Without further ado, here is my Top 5 Anne List. Enjoy!

Top 5 Reasons I Want To Read Anne of Green Gables

  1. I love the first book. It’s one of my favorites from childhood that I still reread as an adult and fall in love with over and over.
  2. Anne is one of my favorite literary characters. I love how spirited and passionate she is about life, love, and her imagination. I love her ambitious nature and her deep loyalty to those she loves. And I love the journey she goes on through the first book and the full series, especially her changing relationship with Gilbert (who is also one of my favorite characters in literature.)
  3. I love the 1985 mini series starring Megan Fellows. It’s one of my favorite movie adaptations period. I think they just get so many of the characters spot on, and I love the sweeping views of Avonlea and PEI (I want to one day go there in the fall and experience it for myself!)
  4. I haven’t read the full series before. I do own the complete set of novels and certainly have been wanting to read the full set. I think I have read the first three novels but not beyond that. I am excited to experience Anne’s full story from beginning to end this year.
  5. I have wanted to host a read along and this seemed like the perfect series to focus on! This is my first time co-hosting a read along and it’s been great fun so far. Jackie is an awesome co-host and we have so much fun talking through ideas about Anne. I am loving hearing what you have to say about Anne too!

  1. I’ve also posted a 5 reasons post 😀 (or rather, didn’t know you were all doing it, so I posted a review in this format 😀 haha). I’m finally done with the review, reading Anne of Avonlea now, but not finding it so nice yet, somehow.
I did like Gilbert from the start as well. It was obvious where it would go 😀

    1. It was a later addition to the read along! But hoping to do a Top 5 post and a review monthly. Then either Jackie or I will also post about another Anne topic (movie adaptations, history of PEI, Montgomery’s other works, etc). I enjoyed your review of Anne of GG. Hope AofA gets better for you. I think the best Gilbert part so far comes end of book 3 though 😉

  2. I think I will watch the Megan Follows movie tonight. I had seen it many times before, but when I bought it last year, I had my husband watch it with me. He just absolutely laughed his ass off. It really is a funny movie! When I read the entire book series last summer, I discovered I loved every other book, which drove me insane. Odd number books = awesome, even number books = I could totally skip them. That is, until book 8, which is probably my favorite! The even number books are fine, but they are strange because LMM went back and added in most of them to appease readers. If she skipped over the smallest part of Anne’s life, readers wanted to know what happened during that time. I think LMM’s lack of passion shows just a bit. The even number books tend to read almost more like short story collections.

    1. I adore the Megan Fellows movie!! I think that’s part why I’m hesitant to watch the new Netflix Anne with an E series. I just don’t think it will be as good. Haha that’s really funny that you liked certain books. I am about half way through book three and have really enjoyed all three so far. But I have heard that LMM isn’t as invested in certain books. And let’s be honest, the first one is something special–all on it’s own. 🙂
