Happy Tuesday and welcome back to Top 10 Tuesday hosted by That Artsy Reader Girl! I am excited to share my top 10 for an older topic that I ran across on Reading in the Wings this week: Ten Books I Can’t Wait to Read With My Future Children.
This is such an awesome topic! And really easy for me. I am constantly telling my husband what books I will read with our kids when they get old enough. Certainly I read a lot to them now, but I can’t wait to share some of my favorite novels with them when they are older. I love this topic, and I love this list. Enjoy!
I can’t wait to read Harry Potter out loud to my kids from my illustrated editions! I just got the third illustrated edition for Christmas and I adore it.
Some of my favorite fantasy settings continue to be Narnia, Middle Earth, and Fablehaven. I am excited to introduce these worlds to my kids one day.
Anne of Green Gables is one of my all time favorites. I can’t wait to introduce my girls to her and experience all her adventures with them.
The Little House on the Prairie books just feel like childhood to me. They are such sweet, cozy reads. I think my kids will love them.
Two of my recent favorite series for middle grade readers are the Penderwicks and the Vanderbeekers. These families are so fun to read about!
Finally, some children’s classics. I love love love Matilda (and Roald Dahl in general). Half Magic and The Secret of Platform 13 are two of my favorite fantasy novels from my childhood. And The Secret Garden is a favorite more traditional classic. I can’t wait to introduce my kids to these favorites.
Honestly, it was hard to stop at 12. Ha! Now tell me what you think! I’d love to hear what you’re planning to read with your kids, grandkids, your nieces and nephews, or friends one day. And I’m always looking for more books to read 😉
What are you planning to read with the kids in your life?
So many of these I remember dearly from when I was growing up! I also remember my mom reading to me: The Wizard of Oz, Ramona Quimby Age 8, The Last of the Really Great Whangdoodles, King of the Wind, Black Beauty…

I’m so glad we share several childhood favorites 🙂 I loved the Ramona books too! Such fun reads. I need to look up the Really Great Whangdoodles–sounds like a fun adventure! Thanks so much for your comment.

I definitely plan on reading Harry Potter, The Chronicles of Narnia, and Anne of Green Gables with my daughter! She is my book lover 🙂 My son is a reluctant reader, but I just put the graphic novel form of the Percy Jackson series on hold at the library, and I am going to try to get him to read it with me since I’ve never read them 🙂

So many wonderful novels to read, so little time! I hope you and your daughter enjoy those favorites of mine! And I didn’t know there was a graphic novel version of Percy Jackson. Sounds really cool actually. What a fun way to experience the series for the first time! Good luck!

Great list! I’ve read most of these, although to myself not to my kids. I only read aloud now to my 10-year-old and the only thing she wants to have read to her are graphic novels! And silly ones at that. Ugh! At least we’re reading SOMETHING, right??

Thank you! And haha–yes at least you’re reading! If only our kids would let us pick their books forever, right? Haha. I hope you get to some of these soon!

aw, the secret of platform 13! J.K Rowling was definitely inspired by that one haha, but I loved it too. And the illustrated Harry Potters are lovely – I got the Beedle the Bard one this year 🙂

AHH! Such great choices!! I was book shopping yesterday at a used bookstore and saw the children’s section and just got so excited to someday start my children’s library and hopefully their love of books 🙂
