I can’t believe we are already finished with 2017! What a crazy, wonderful year it was!

Today I want to reflect a bit on my bookish experiences in 2017. You can see my 2017 goals here. I was able to reach my goal of 50 books total with Les Miserables after Christmas. What an incredible masterpiece that book is! Working on a review coming soon! I read a lot. I wrote a lot. And I managed to do it while also having a baby and a toddler. I call this a successful reading year! Hope yours was as successful as you hoped.

  2. We read many of the same books in 2017! Obviously the Anne of Green Gables series, except I still have to finish the final 2 books. Also, The Zookeeper’s Wife, Lilac Girls, The One and Only Ivan, and The Girl Who Drank the Moon.

  4. I’m glad you felt it was okay to put down two of the Anne books in your list of Top Books. Better yet, those are probably my two favourite Anne books (I don’t ever count AofGG. Which is obviously the BEST of LMM’s work!)

    I read about 11 books last year. Oliver Twist stood out along with A Christmas Carol. I have loved A Christmas Carol growing up watching a movie version, but never read it until 2017. Hunchback of Notre Dame was a good read as well. So still 11 books in one year

    1. I love A Christmas Carol! Such a great read (and lovely and short for Dickens 😉 ) I have Oliver Twist on my list for the next few years! I should add Hunchback of Notre Dame to my TBR now that I have finished Les Mis! Hugo is an incredible novelist. Thanks so much for your comment!

        I kept on debating about Hunchback of Notre Dame: I had already read Les Misérables and like expected due to my love for the musical, loved it. But I was like eventually “do I honestly want to read another book with these tangents”. But glad I decided to read it.

        The thing with “A Christmas Carol” is I grew up watching the George C Scott version and never got around to reading it. So glad I finally got to read and it is my favorite Dickens story at the moment.

            As I read A Christmas Carol, I could picture the George C Scott movie so well. My book had pictures and even in those pictures could picture the movie. That goes to show just how wonderful that adaption of the book is.

            If I wasn’t in love with the musical of Les Mis, no way would I have anted to read it considering how long it is. But I would recommend it to any fan of the musical. What got me through it without giving up was relying on the musical and since I was trying to finish it by end of summer, it led me to never give up and read it everyday. But I did skip some days because I was in Chicago in those skipped days and no way I would pack a “brick”.

            1. That’s so neat your copy had pictures! Sounds lovely!

              And yes I agree! Loving the musical totally helped me get through the more dense parts of the book. And reading a little everyday helped me as well–especially the second half!

              The knowledge of the musical helped me understand the parts not in the book. I was able to pick up moments that represented the songs. I hope to read the book again but at a slower pace
