Top 10 Tuesday: Fairytale Retellings and Favorites

Welcome back to Top 10 Tuesday hosted by The Broke and the Bookish! This week I’m sharing some of my favorite fairy tale retellings and favorites. I realized I haven’t actually read too many fairy tale retellings so I included several of my favorite fairy tales and a few TV/movie adaptations. Enjoy!

Ella Enchanted by Gail Carson Levine // One of my childhood favorites. I love the way it incorporates the Cinderella story. The movie is darling too.

The Goose Girl by Shannon Hale // One of my recent favorites. I love the way the story weaves words, friendship, and love into a brilliant tale. I haven’t actually read the original fairy tale, but I should!

To Read:

Cinder by Marissa Meyer // I have this book from the library now! Super excited to read one of my favorite fairy tales with a new twist.

A Whole New World by Liz Braswell // I have heard mixed reviews about this one. But it still intrigues me. It follows the story of Aladdin in an alternate universe where Jafar first found the genie in the magic lamp. Hoping to find it at the library soon!

Favorite Classics:

The 12 Dancing Princesses // I always have loved the magic of this story. I would love to read a retelling of it. Any suggestions out there?

Beauty and the Beast // What’s not to love about a story about a girl who loves books? One of my all time favorites!

Sleeping Beauty // I loved the Disney adaptation as a child, especially the fairies.

Just for Fun:

Once Upon a Time // This is my guilty pleasure show. I think the first season does the best job of incorporating fairy tales into the show plot. The later seasons just get crazy. But I still love it. Watch season 1.

Frozen, The Snow Queen // I just love this movie–the music, the sister relationships, and Olaf (of course).

Tangled, Rapunzel // Another great movie! Love the songs and the love.

  1. I love Frozen and Tangled! I’m interested in A Whole New World and like you, I’ve heard mix reviews about it but I’ll definitely give it a shot.
    Great list! 🙂

  2. I loved Ella Enchanted and The Goose Girl too. And yes, also loved the movies Tangled and Frozen! If you’re interested in Beauty and the Beast retellings, Robin McKinley has two of them: Beauty and Rose Daughter.
