Welcome back to Top 10 Tuesday hosted by That Artsy Reader Girl!
This week’s prompt is Characters That Remind Me of Myself. This is such a fun topic! I am a bit stereotypical when it comes to characters that remind me of myself. Or perhaps it’s that I aspire to be like these (mostly) classic characters. Regardless, these are some of my favorite characters from some of my favorite books. Enjoy!
Jo March, Little Women // I am an aspiring writer like Jo, with a matching ability to lose my temper. Although, I would have married Laurie.
Eleanor Dashwood, Sense and Sensibility // I always get Eleanor when I’ve taken “which Jane Austen character are you?” quizzes. I think it fits because I am rather practical, I’m a planner, and while I adore Elizabeth Bennett, I am not quite as daring as she is.
Anne Elliot, Persuasion // I can appreciate Anne’s tendencies to rely on the opinions of people she admires for advice. But I also choose what will make me happy (and I like to think it doesn’t take me so many years to find happiness!)
Hermione Granger, Harry Potter Series // Classic in so many ways. I am very much like Hermione as a student–a recovering perfectionist who always wanted A’s.
Anne Shirley, Anne of Green Gables // I love reading and dreaming like Anne. And I have grown very attached to my homes over the years. Anne is very attached to place like me.
Lucy Pevensie, The Chronicles of Narnia // I like to think I would go through the wardrobe into Narnia. And I definitely will always believe in Narnia.
Liesel Meminger, The Book Thief // Words have power. I like to think I would have had the courage to help a friend and hide a Jew during WWII. And I know that books and words would have given me courage during a war.
Juliet Ashton, The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society // I want to write something that means something. I think friendships are important. And I would fall in love with Guernsey just like Juliet does.
Marianne Daventry, Edenbrooke // I love this book and the way Marianne comes to see herself in the best ways through Philip. I feel the same way about my sweetheart.
Rosalind Penderwick, The Penderwicks Series // I’m an oldest sibling like Rosalind. So everything she does and how she protects and leads her family really resonates with me.
Which characters remind you of yourself?
“Jo March, Little Women // I am an aspiring writer like Jo, with a matching ability to lose my temper. Although, I would have married Laurie.”
Thank YOU! In my mind, Jo and Laurie totally ended up together. They were PERFECT for one another. I would say this is one of my biggest disappointments in all of literature lol

AMEN!! I am still kind of upset every time I read this book or see an adaptation and Jo refuses Laurie. So disappointing!
I will say that Prof Bhaer is redeemed in my eyes in the sequels. But I still pine after Jo and Laurie. Ha!

I would say Francie .”A Tree Grows In Brooklyn”‘ I grew up in Brooklyn and I had an Irish father ,too, though my father did not drink. Francie liked to read and wanted to read every book in the library. I feel the same way.
Tacy “Betsy Tacy Series. I am shy like Tacy. Tacy was quiet as I am but as a child I could do a liitle mischief as Betsy Tacy and Tib did at times.
Diana “Anne of Green Gables”. I have a friend who is my Kindred Spirit. I try to be a good friend. I have friends from childhood and school that I still keep in touch with during the year.

Thanks so much for sharing, Marilyn!
I haven’t read “A Tree Grows in Brooklyn” since high school. I think I would find it more powerful now.
Kindred spirits are so special. Glad you have some in your life! 🙂

Liesel is a great choice. She was such a brave kid.

I love so many of these classic and bookish heroines! Juliet Ashton is a great addition and one I wouldn’t have thought of. It sounds like I need to “meet” Marianne Daventry soon too!

Thank you! I suppose that says a lot about me and my bookish tendancies 😉
I LOVE Edenbrooke. Can’t recommend that one highly enough! 🙂

I picked Jo for me, based on personality/temperament, not tastes, goals, etc. And if I was in her place, yeah, I would’ve married Laurie.
Another Penderwick. I’m more like Skye myself, again personality/temperament, not tastes, goals, etc.

That’s awesome! It’s hard to find a character that perfectly matches our personality and goals, right? Glad you know the Penderwicks! 🙂

This IS a fun topic, but it had me stumped! The only character I could think of was Hermione, who I think is someone all bookworms can relate to. I’m glad you were able to think of others — it was fun learning a little bit more about you through your fictional dopplegangers 🙂
Happy TTT!

Thanks, Susan! I totally know how that feels being stumped by a TTT topic. I was a bit relieved to not find myself quite as stumped. 🙂
