Top 10 Tuesday: Hidden Gems

Welcome back to Top 10 Tuesday hosted by That Artsy Reader Girl!

This week’s prompt is Hidden Gems (which books haven’t been talked about as much or haven’t been marketed as strongly that you think deserve some recognition?). I am super excited about this topic. Although it has been a bit harder to come up with a list than I thought. I read a lot of popular books apparently! Hope you enjoy my hidden gems.

Fablehaven by Brandon Mull // Everyone who loves fantasy, has read Harry Potter, or enjoys a clever setting/story should read this series. They are some of my absolute favorites. I’ve raved about them here on my blog many times.

Emma & Sense and Sensibility by Jane Austen // I include these because I think sometimes we talk so much about Pride and Prejudice (which I also love) that we forget Austen wrote more than one book. These are two that have impressed me recently.

The Goose Girl by Shannon Hale // I love love love everything Shannon Hale writes. This book is the first in a series that is beautifully clever and has well written characters & fast paced action while also teaching beautiful morals. You can’t go wrong with Shannon Hale’s books.

Jo’s Boys by Louisa May Alcott // This is nearly as good as Little Women, in my opinion. I love that we get so much more about the March family in the sequels.

Anne’s House of Dreams & Rilla of Ingleside by L. M. Montgomery // These are my two favorite sequels in the eight book Anne series. Just as beautiful and life changing as the original Anne story.

Lizzy and Jane & Dear Mr Knightley by Katherine Reay // I have raved about Katherine’s books here before. And I think everyone should read them. They are for book lovers, for food lovers, for family, for friends, for people. Start with Dear Mr. Knightley and work your way through her collection.

Edenbrooke by Julianne Donaldson // The historical romance that hooked me on the genre. I love everything about this book. It’s still an all time favorite of mine and I love rereading it.

What are some of your favorite hidden gems?

  1. Oooo I have never read either of the sequels to Little Women! Little Women has a special place in my heart since I used to watch the film adaptation with my grandmother every time I stay with her. I should really read Little Men and Jo’s Boys to see what happens with the March family after Little Women.

Anne’s House of Dreams & Rilla of Ingleside were among my favorite sequels too! I also really enjoyed Anne of the Island 🙂

    1. That is such a sweet memory, Amanda! I love that. For me, Jo’s Boys is better than Little Men. But they are both beautifully written and have so much of the classic Alcott characters/style. Highly recommend 🙂

So glad you love Anne sequels as well! Oh yes, Anne of the Island is up there too for me!

  2. Fablehaven is a series I’ve wanted to read for a long time. One of these days! And I need to read Austen too- Emma and Sense & Sensibility both sound good to me, and I loved the S&S movie with Emma Thompson so I probably would like the book too!
