Top 10 Tuesday: Books to Pull You Out of A Slump

Welcome back to Top 10 Tuesday hosted by That Artsy Reader Girl!

This week’s topic is books to pull you out of a reading slump which I think is so fun! We all get in reading slumps so I’m excited to share some favorites for getting out. For me, a great series gets me out of a slump so several of these start fantastic series. Enjoy!

The Penderwicks by Jeanne Birdsall // One of my favorite recent series (I just finished this month!) These books are easy to get into and the characters are lovely. Plus there’s five books for you to read and love 🙂

The Night Circus by Erin Morgenstern // It’s been a few years since I read this but I’m still talking about how neat it was! A clever and unique fantasy novel that you won’t be able to put down.

The Graveyard Book by Neil Gaiman // This was another book that I couldn’t put down and was so unique. I’ve never read anything quite like it. It will surprise you and haunt you in the best ways.

Love and Gelato by Jenna Evans Welch // If you’re looking for something light and sweet, look no further than this love story set in Italy. It’s darling!

Ender’s Game by Orson Scott Card // If you like science fiction or want to delve into a new genre to get out of your slump, I recommend this one. An exciting adventure story that has a crazy twist. The movie’s solid as well.

Dragonwatch by Brandon Mull // I love Mull’s Fablehaven series so if you haven’t read that, start there! But this new series set in the same universe is clever and action packed as well. You’ll have to wait for book 2 until October though.

Cinder by Marissa Meyer // If you haven’t read the Lunar Chronicles yet, you need to. These clever retellings of classic fairy tales are addicting. Sure to get you out of a slump in no time especially with 5 books and a short story collection.

The Selection by Kiera Cass // If you enjoy a clever love story or you want something quick and easy to enjoy, this series is darling. I consider it my guilty pleasure series and I must admit I adore it. Yes, I absolutely own all 5 books and just got the short story collection this year. Love them all!

The Goose Girl by Shannon Hale // This is one of my favorite series by a favorite author of mine. Her storytelling is brilliant and the characters are fantastic. Be careful, once you read one Shannon Hale novel, you’ll need to read them all 🙂

Harry Potter Series by J. K. Rowling // If nothing works, go with a classic. Whether you’ve read and love Harry or you’ve surprisingly never read these books, they will capture you. The magic is real.

Which books get you out of a reading slump?

  1. Loved reading your selections Jane! I spy a few of my personal favorites on this list: Harry Potter (duh!), The Night Circus, and The Graveyard Book.

The Ender’s Game has been on my TBR for a long time, but have never picked it up.

I’ll have to look into The Penderwicks!

I have never actually been in a reading slump. Sometimes I have stopped reading for fun for good reasons: academic reasons and currently due to writing a book
