Hi everyone! I’m embarrassingly late on this post. How is May already flying by? Here’s my big reading plans this month. I need to catch up on my goals before July 😉
April was lighter on reading and reviewing with our guests in town and moving. Here’s what was happening around here:
- I reviewed Sense and Sensibility as part of my Classics Club list.
- I read and just posted my review for To the Farthest Shore–a recent surprise ARC I received. Thanks, Elizabeth!
- I reviewed The City of Ember for fun.
- I finished Lilac Girls for book club and am working on a review right now!
Big plans for this month! I’ve already finished a few of these.
For the Classics Club:
Les Miserables by Victor Hugo // Making progress on this beautiful classic. Now 20% through it and dying to see the play again 🙂
The Great Gatsby by F. Scott Fitzgerald // This will be a reread from high school for me. Looking forward to rediscovering this novel.
The Old Man and the Sea by Ernest Hemingway // I figured I would keep with the American ex-pats and read this shorter novel from Hemingway as well this month.
For Book Club:
The Girl Who Drank the Moon by Kelly Barnhill // Really excited about this 2016 Newbery Award winner. We haven’t read any children’s literature in book club lately so this is especially exciting!
For the Anne of Green Gables Read Along 2017:
Anne of Green Gables by L. M. Montgomery // I reread this book back in 2015 and I’m hoping to do so again to kick off my read along! Check it out here.
For 2017 Goals:
The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People by Stephen R. Covey // I have only a few chapters left in this one. I really have enjoyed this because it is so different from what I usually read.
The Eyre Affair by Jasper Fforde // I just started this neat bookish sci fi novel. It’s really intriguing. Looking forward to reading more.
Where the Mountain Meets the Moon by Grace Lin // This Newbery Award winner was on our short list for book club. And it sounds really interesting–a narrative that intertwines Chinese folklore.
Life of Pi by Yann Martel // I still haven’t quite started this one. But I want to this month. 😉
Finished and need to review:
Garden Spells by Sarah Addison Allen // A friend of mine recommended this to me. It was intriguingly different–magical realism.
The One and Only Ivan by Katherine Applegate // Another Newbery Award winner that was unique, emotional, and beautiful.
What are you reading this month?
So many of these books are on my TBR as well! The Girl Who Drank the Moon, Where the Mountain Meets the Moon, and Life of Pi specifically. I read When the Sea Turned to Silver by Grace Lin this past year and really enjoyed it, so I picked up Where the Mountain Meets the Moon at a library sale for $0.50. From what I understand, these two books along with Starry River of the Sky, connect somehow…

I just got The Girl Who Drank the Moon from the library and love it so far! I have Where the Mountain Meets the Moon too from the library–that’s next on my list. I didn’t realize it was connected to her other novels. I’m sure I will need to read those as well 🙂 And just about any book is worth $0.50 at a library sale! Those are my favorite things 🙂

If it makes you feel better I had to do my January, February, March, AND April recaps all in one go. I’m finally starting to get back to blogging again and commenting so yay!!!
I can’t wait to hear your thoughts on Covey’s book as I’ve had it on my shelf for awhile. I read most of the Thursday next books (I think I have one last trilogy or something left) and thoroughly enjoyed most of them. Happy reading!

Haha. That does make me feel better, Geoff! I just skipped ahead. Haha. Almost done with Covey’s book–one habit to go. Highly recommend it so far. Cool! I have just read a few chapters in The Eyre Affair–super clever and intriguing and suspenseful so far.

I still need to read The Girl Who Drank The Moon. I’ve heard a lot of good things about it. I also liked The One And Only Ivan. It was a sweet story. Happy May!
