Blogging Extravaganza: Inspirational Women in Literature

I’m back today with a new installment of “Get up Offa that Slump: A Blogging Extravaganza.” Today’s topic is inspirational women in literature which is fantastic. And also so easy to get going and never stop listing great female characters. So I stuck with 5 of my favorites. Enjoy!

Dinah // The Red Tent by Anita Diament // Dinah is the daughter of Leah and Jacob (as in Israel) from the Bible. This story chronicles her coming of age through life in Jacob’s family, specifically experiences as a woman in the red tent–where women went during childbirth and menstruation. A fascinating read!

Jane // Jane Eyre by Charlotte Bronte // I love this novel so much. Jane is an intriguing protagonist who rises from a penniless orphan to the governess and eventually bride of Mr. Rochester. She may seem naive and innocent, but I am amazed by her intelligence and moral courage.

Meg, Jo, Beth, Amy, and Marme // Little Women by Louisa May Alcott // Another one of my favorite classics. Each of the women in this family–the daughters and mother–show incredible strength and wisdom throughout their stories. I find myself identifying with all of them in some way.

Anne Shirley // Anne of Green Gables by L. M. Montgomery // Anne is one of my favorite characters in literature. Period. She is a dreamer, a fighter, and a kindred spirit. How I love her story and her journey to find happiness, home, and love.

Hermione Granger // Harry Potter Series by J. K. Rowling // This list would be incomplete without Hermione. I love this series so much. And it is Hermione that keeps the heroes alive with her ingenuity, strength, and bookish knowledge. If only everyone had read Hogwarts: A History 🙂

  3. I have been commenting that I would have had Hermione, Jane, and Jo on my list (I did the bookish wants list instead), and I completely forgot about Anne Shirley! I am hanging my head in shame. I have never heard of The Red Tent before. It sounds interesting. I am going to add it to my library look-fors on Goodreads. 🙂

  9. Great picks. Jane Eyre is one that I think I read but will be rereading sometime this year. And I completely agree that Hermione is the one that saved the heroes in the books. Without her they wouldn’t have even passed their grades I think. lol
    I still haven’t completed Anne of Green Gables yet. I’ve read the firs part of Little Women, loved it, now need to find the time to read the other half. There’s just never enough time right? And ever since that Lifetime tv mini-series, The Red Tent has been on my tbr.

    1. Thank you! I hope you can reread Jane Eyre soon–so fantastic. And Little Women is just beautiful–but totally longer than I expect! Oh I hope you find time for Anne of Green Gables in the near future–one of my favorites. I will have to check out that mini-series of The Red Tent. Great book too!

      Amen to too many books to read and not enough time! Haha.
