Top 10 Tuesday: Books that Deserve a Great Soundtrack

Welcome back to Top 10 Tuesday, hosted by The Broke and the Bookish! This week is all about music & books. I have been sitting here for a while trying to come up with clever book/song combinations. And it’s hard. So I decided to take a twist on this topic.

Today, I’m taking about Books that Deserve a Great Soundtrack! Now, all of these are not yet movies so they do not have soundtracks yet. I’m not necessarily thinking these books should have movie soundtracks, but rather songs that encompass the feelings, characters, themes, and action of these novels. I hope you enjoy them!

Eleanor and Park by Rainbow Rowell // Beautiful and achingly tragic love songs here. I keep thinking about what songs would be on a movie trailer for this book.

The Night Circus by Erin Morgenstern. // Magical, haunting, and beautiful songs that keep you guessing and searching for more.

Edenbrooke by Julianne Donaldson // Just reread this novel. All about classic, happy, true-to-yourself love songs here.

Cinder by Marissa Meyer // This would be a neat mix of intense and romantic music–to capture the contrasting scenes in this novel.

The Little Paris Bookshop by Nina George // Soul searching, forgiving, and accepting music that must be as beautiful and moving as the words of this story.

Gilead by Marianne Robinson // Thought-provoking and deep-thinking music belongs to this philosophical tale.

All the Light We Cannot See by Anthony Doerr // Books like this are simple and profound, specific and detailed, exciting and slow. The music would have to do the same.

The Goose Girl by Shannon Hale // The words of these songs would be as important, if not more important, than the melodies.

BONUS: Soundtracks I’m excited to hear

The BFG by Roald Dahl // One of my favorite Dahl books coming to theaters this summer!

Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them // Love me some new Harry Potter world music!

What songs do you recommend for these books?
What books would you build a soundtrack for?

  1. I wonder if any of Rowell’s books will end up as a movie…

Most books could use a soundtrack, I think. It would be a lot of effort to tailor the number of songs to your reading speed, so the right songs played at the right moment… but it would be quite an effect!
