Welcome back to another fantastic week of Top 10 Tuesday hosted by The Broke and the Bookish! This week’s topic is Top Ten Book To Movie Adaptations I’m Looking Forward To or Ten Book To Movie Adaptations I Still Need To Watch. When I started brainstorming for my list, I started thinking of some of my favorite movie adaptations and I couldn’t get get going on adaptations I am looking forward to. I’m sure they are out there, I just got too excited about my favorites.
So I give you a little twist on this week’s topic: my favorite movie adaptations. Enjoy!
Pride and Prejudice // starring Colin Firth and Jennifer Ehle // Totally worth the 6 hour run time. One of my favorite adaptations ever. Just love it.
Little Dorrit // starring Claire Foy and Matthew Macfadyen // It’s all about the extended run times for me. I adore this mini-series based on Dickens classic novel. It does a great job sorting out the many characters and story lines of the novel–and creates a compelling and intriguing depiction of them all.
Anne of Green Gables // starring Megan Follows // One of my favorite classic novels of all time. My review is coming later this week! I adore this adaptation because it beautifully portrays this beautiful novel. I recently watched this at my parents’ house on VHS–I need to own it on DVD! Worth every minute.
Little Women // starring Winona Ryder // This adaptation is so sweet. It captures the essence of this beautiful novel so well. And I love that Christian Bale plays Laurie, makes me love his character even more!
The Help // starring Emma Stone and Viola Davis // I was a bit skeptical of this one at first. But I have come to love this adaptation just like I love the novel. Beautifully acted.
Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows parts 1-2 // starring Daniel Radcliffe, Rupert Grint, and Emma Watson // I love the Harry Potter movies as their own set of great films, but I try to keep them separate from the books in my mind. I love that the final book was two movies because that allowed the adaptations to include more from the books. Classic series and classic movies.
Persuasion // starring Amanda Root and Ciarán Hinds // I have recommending this adaptation before here on Greenish Bookshelf. I love the story of Persuasion and find this adaptation to be truest to the characters and the love story.
The Book Thief // starring Sophie Nélisse, Gregory Rush, and Emily Watson // Another of my favorite novels. I was super excited to see how they would bring together the unique perspective from the novel into a movie. Another beautifully acted movie that captures the heart of the novel.
The Fault in Our Stars // starring Shailene Woodley and Ansel Elgort // I feel like this is a guilty pleasure movie. Haha. Sometimes, I just love a good chick flick that makes me weep. This movie (and book) does that.
Gone with the Wind // starring Clark Gable and Vivien Leigh // I actually have never read this book. But I adore the movie adaptation. Just a beautiful (and another long) rendition of this classic love story.
Miss Potter // starring Renée Zellweger and Ewan McGregor // Okay, technically not an adaptation but one of my favorite movies ever. It follows the story of Beatrix Potter as she begins publishing her Peter Rabbit stories, falls in love, and must find herself amidst trials and misunderstandings. A beautiful movie!

That is one of my go-to movies! Love it so much! But I always hope she gets back to London in time! Ahh, my heart breaks!

I have yet to read many of these, but I have to agree that The Book Thief is one of my favourite movie adaptations and is incredibly loyal to the book.

Such a great list! I loved the TFIOS adaptation, I thought it was well-done, even if my heart will always be more fond of the book 🙂 I thought that the last Harry Potter movies were really good, too! Still need to watch The Help, I’m glad to hear it’s a great movie!! 🙂

The Help is wonderful; it made me cry and laugh in equal measures. I have never seen the adaptation of Pride and Prejudice with Colin Firth (though I loved the Keira Knightley version), but I’ve heard so many good things about it I feel like I really should get on that! My favourite adaptation that isn’t on this list is The Hunger Games series – I feel like the movies are true to the books and really well-acted!

I totally agree about The Help–just a beautiful movie! And I hope you get to the BBC P&P soon. It’s definitely long but I just love it. And I totally forgot about the Hunger Games! Great addition to this list. And the last one comes out so soon! Are you going to see it?!

I don’t really rate adaptations most of the time. But the Pride and Prejudice you have (and actually I like the Kiera Knightly version too), The Help and The Book Thief are all good. I like the Lord of the Rings adaptation too
